Chapter 608 - 579: Boys and Girls
Sienna Thornton felt a bit puzzled. Simon Forrester clearly hadn’t left the private room, so how did he go to pay the bill? She turned her head, leaned in close to Simon’s ear, and whispered, "When did you sneak out to pay the bill? How did I not notice?"Simon Forrester laughed, "Do I really need to personally show up just to pay a bill?"
...
The group left the restaurant, Quentin Thorne and Simon Forrester went to the garage to retrieve the car, while Sienna Thornton supported Old Mrs. Thorne to the lobby to wait for the car.
After a while, Simon Forrester drove over in a Lamborghini Bull, and all the younger members of the Thorne Family waiting in the lobby ran out to see.
"Sienna drove this car two years ago; I remember that plate — four ones!"
"Of course, she can drive it casually; it’s her husband’s car!"
"They weren’t married back then though..."
"Then again, she could drive her boyfriend’s car casually..."
Hearing this, Sienna couldn’t help but laugh: "We’re going to your brother-in-law’s hometown cemetery today, so driving this car makes the journey easier."
"So, what cars do Sienna and your brother-in-law drive around the city usually?" A boy in his early twenties was quite intrigued by luxury cars.
Sienna, as she helped Old Mrs. Thorne while waiting for Quentin, wasn’t busy, so she chatted with them: "I drive a Maserati Ghibli, and your brother-in-law used to drive a Volvo. Later, he realized that even his subordinates’ cars were better, so following strong family advice, he upgraded to a Mercedes."
"Your brother-in-law is honestly amazing... So wealthy, yet driving a Volvo!"
"Maybe he was afraid of getting scammed?"
"A Volvo won’t help him pick up chicks..."
Sienna laughed heartily, thinking, that wasn’t entirely true, as Simon Forrester did win her over while driving a Volvo, although it took quite some effort. Back then, everyone was genuine, never paying much mind to materialistic things, solely pursuing true sincerity and pure, genuine love from one another.
Four years ago, she lived in an old, run-down apartment, drove a company car, and was a fearless, albeit inexperienced and somewhat broke, brave little lawyer starting her own practice.
He, initially, didn’t use his most direct advantage—being wealthy—to pursue her. Already in his thirties, acting like a naive youngster, he took care of her when she was hurt, traveled with her to her hometown, took her to Norport for a romantic night, but finally scared her off with an awkward "’wanna try being with a builder?" only to have to chase her down, putting significant effort once again.
It wasn’t easy for such a candid person to win over a girl.
...
Quentin Thorne took Old Mrs. Thorne away, Sienna Thornton got into Simon Forrester’s car.
"What were you laughing about with those Thorne Family young rascals just now?"
Sienna had fastened her seatbelt and replied, smiling, "They said your car looks great."
"It’s alright."
The car melded into the evening traffic, the massive Bull struggled a bit on the narrow streets of the old town.
Sienna, bored while seated, picked up the previous topic: "Look at your friends driving supercars worth tens of millions; you should change cars too. Otherwise, when clients see your cheap car, they might mistakenly think The Forresters are in financial trouble."
Simon Forrester chuckled, "You sure learned a lot from my mom."
Sienna then realized that over the years, some of her views had indeed changed, while Simon Forrester remained unchanged.
She playfully stuck her tongue out, smiling, "Her advice was sound, so I absorbed it!"
"Nothing but nonsensical reasoning..."
Noticing Simon Forrester was about to lecture, she quickly switched the topic: "Remember the appointment with Dr. Sutton the day after tomorrow to do the 4D ultrasound."
Simon Forrester nodded and grinned, "How could I forget that?"
"Good that you haven’t forgotten."
"With the 4D ultrasound, can we see our daughter’s face?"
"Yes, I heard we might be able to see the baby’s face."
"Do you think the child will resemble you or me?"
Sienna scoffed at his idle talk: "Still inside the womb; how would I know?"
"If it’s a daughter, she might look like me..."
"Oh, so you’ve been hoping for a daughter all along, just to see a mini version of yourself, huh? You’re so narcissistic..."
Simon Forrester was left speechless.
His desire for a daughter stemmed from the cuteness, beauty, and endearing nature of little girls; merely the thought of holding a beautiful girl by hand and another adorable beauty in his arms made him feel like he had won life’s lottery.
But he didn’t know how to convey this feeling to Sienna, thus leaving her with the misconception that he favored having a daughter merely out of superficial self-love.
Seeing him silent, Sienna said, "Then I want a son who’s as handsome as me."
Simon Forrester: "..."
A son resembling her would equate to resembling Quentin Thorne, wouldn’t it?
Simon Forrester saw this as a nightmare.
He silently prayed; it must be a daughter.
...
Finally, the day for the 4D ultrasound arrived.
Simon Forrester had called Tobias Blackwood last night, hoping Nadia and Joyce Sutton could secretly inform them of the baby’s gender after Sienna Thornton completed the 4D ultrasound.
Tobias Blackwood asked if the family elders were pressuring him to have children.
Seeing Sienna was nearby, Simon Forrester discreetly took his cellphone to the bathroom, whispering to Tobias Blackwood, "Your little one’s a girl, right?"
"Yes."
"Does she resemble you or your wife?"
"She looks like me."
"So, could you imagine having a son who looks like your father-in-law?"
Tobias Blackwood didn’t speak immediately, probably picturing his son in his mind over the phone; after a moment, he chuckled, "My wife doesn’t resemble my father-in-law; she looks like my mother-in-law. My mother-in-law is very pretty."
Simon Forrester: "..."
Tobias Blackwood ultimately didn’t agree to pass along insider info, saying hospitals nowadays don’t allow leaking of baby genders, lest Joyce Sutton lose her job.
Simon Forrester couldn’t force this, and that night he dreamt that a few months later, Sienna gave birth to a son, one who sadly somewhat resembled Quentin Thorne.
The dream tormented him because Quentin Thorne was often quite stern with him; if his son looked like Quentin, he wasn’t sure how he’d play with his son in the future.
"Sienna Thorne! Is Sienna Thorne here?" The ultrasound room nurse called out.
Sienna gently shook Simon Forrester’s arm: "It’s my turn, do you want to come in?"
"Of course." Simon Forrester snapped back to reality, hurriedly stood up, and escorted her into the ultrasound room.
Today, the doctor was a woman.
Sienna lay on the bed, lifting her shirt to reveal her slightly rounded belly.
The doctor applied jelly on her abdomen and pressed the probe towards the uterus area to begin checking for abnormalities.
It seemed Joyce Sutton had made arrangements, as the doctor was quite friendly, explaining everything in detail: "The baby’s legs are long and the brow bones are deep, with a high nose bridge, a long-legged, well-defined, and sculpted baby."
Simon Forrester leaned closer, everything looking dark on screen, but he asked boldly, "Doctor, can we find out if it’s a boy or girl?"
The doctor smiled, "Boy or girl, as long as it’s yours, it’s all good."
"Of course it’s ours, but just..." Simon Forrester hadn’t finished speaking when he felt a tiny hand pulling his shirt.
He turned around to see Sienna giving him a warning glare: Don’t embarrass us!
He awkwardly stood straight, refrained from asking further, holding the tiny hand that tugged at his shirt in his own.
