Chapter 572 - 543: Morning Sickness
The doctor said Sienna Thornton needs to take iron supplements. During lunch, Simon Forrester ordered her a range of dishes beneficial for blood replenishment, including braised eggplant casserole, stir-fried black fungus with yam, stir-fried pork with green beans, and carp black bean soup. The restaurant they visited was generally not bad, and with Simon’s thoughtful instruction to add a little spice to the dishes, Sienna enjoyed her meal with great relish.
After lunch, the two of them went to the duty-free shop and bought several bottles of liquid iron supplements, and also picked up some gifts for Melinda Linton and Quentin Thorne, before returning to The Springs Residences.
The corners of Simon Forrester’s mouth were slightly raised throughout, clearly showing his inner joy, though being outside, he tried not to show too much and just let a smile lightly overflow.
Once inside the elevator, he said cheerfully, "Guess what kind of reaction Thornton and our mom will have when they hear you’re pregnant?"
Sienna Thornton was much calmer emotionally and simply said, "No need to tell them specifically, or else they might not want to go to Kitano."
Simon was startled, "You’re pregnant and still planning to go to Kitano?"
Sienna gave him a faint glance and countered, "Why not go? It’s not like I’m giving birth tomorrow."
"When Thomas Reed got married, his wife went on a honeymoon while pregnant. Not long after they returned, the child was gone."
Upon hearing this, Sienna’s face showed some discomfort. She remained silent for a while, pondered, and then said quietly, "Everyone’s physique is different. Trust my body."
Simon knew that once she set her mind on something, it was hard to change it, so he didn’t persuade her further and planned to call Joyce Sutton later.
They entered the house, where only Auntie King was present.
It was Saturday, so Quentin didn’t need to go to work and was probably out having fun with Melinda Linton somewhere.
Getting up early to go to the hospital had left Sienna a bit weary, so she went back to her room for a nap. In a daze, she seemed to hear Simon making a phone call.
After his call, he nestled into bed and drew her into his embrace. She turned over, tucked herself comfortably into his arms, and traced her fingers along his warm earlobe. "Who were you talking to?" she asked.
"Dr. Sutton," he replied.
She let out a soft "Mmm" and asked again, "What did you talk about?"
Simon held her tighter and laughed, "I asked her if it’s okay for you in this condition to take a flight abroad, and she said as long as you rest well and maintain good hygiene with your diet, it’s fine."
"I told you, I know my body quite well..." Her voice faded as she fell asleep.
Simon, however, was wide awake. He raised his hand and brushed her hair away from her forehead, gazing at her sweet sleeping face with satisfaction.
.
When Sienna awoke from her nap, Melinda and Quentin had returned. The pair had apparently bought some things outside, and were now busy in the kitchen.
As she walked in and glanced at the oily duck skin and smelled the scallions, she immediately felt her stomach churning, covered her mouth, and rushed to the restroom.
Simon was coming out of the room when he saw her darting like the wind into the guest bathroom, followed by the continuous sound of retching, sparking his concern, and he quickly went after her.
She was slumped by the toilet, vomiting, but nothing was coming out, only dry heaving. Eventually, some yellowish liquid emerged.
Simon’s heartache almost brought him to tears. After patting her empty-handedly for a while, he hurried out to ask Auntie King for a warm towel and a glass of soda water.
Auntie King was initially shocked by Sienna’s condition, but quickly realized the good news and happily went to prepare the items.
Melinda Linton and Quentin heard the commotion and came over, seeing Sienna by the toilet, Melinda gently asked, "Is Annie pregnant?"
Simon replied, "Yes, six weeks now."
Melinda was overjoyed, her eyes glistening with tears.
She entered the bathroom, helped gently pat her daughter’s back, and comforted softly, "It’s okay, Annie, just let it out."
Quentin stood outside looking on, saying nothing, and gestured for Simon to join him.
They went to the balcony; Quentin furrowed his brows for a long time without speaking, prompting Simon to ask, eager to return to Sienna’s side, "What is it?"
"How could Annie get pregnant now? She’s competing for the Deputy Director position at the Treaty and Law Department, and this can’t be the best timing, it will decrease her competitiveness."
Simon hadn’t expected Quentin’s reaction. He irritably ran his hand through his hair but patiently explained, "We’ve been together for four years now; being pregnant at this point is really late. Also, when we started trying for a baby, we didn’t know the Deputy Director position would become available."
Quentin sighed and shook his head.
Simon, worried Quentin might say something demoralizing, affecting Sienna, took a deep breath and patiently added, "We are both delighted about the arrival of this child. Once the baby is born, I’ll do my best to help take care of everything, so it doesn’t impact Annie’s work. Children eventually need to come into the picture. Anytime is the perfect timing, and it will always intersect with work at some point. I hope you can appreciate this perspective."
Finishing his words, Simon went back inside.
Sienna had finished vomiting by then and was sitting in the dining area, her head tilted back, panting. Melinda was helping wipe her face and offering her water.
Simon approached her, bent over to hold her hand, and asked anxiously, "Feeling any better?"
With a weak nod, Sienna smiled wryly, "I’m doomed; the morning sickness has started..."
Simon embraced her reassuringly, "There will be solutions; Dr. Sutton’s pregnancy guidelines include ways to deal with it, don’t worry."
Melinda quickly instructed Auntie King to make some anti-nausea soup.
At dinner, worried that the smell of roast duck would upset Sienna, Quentin had Auntie King put away the duck and its ingredients they bought earlier and served only stir-fried vegetables and the anti-nausea soup, everyone supporting the pale-faced Sienna as they ate together.
Though Sienna still felt uncomfortable drinking the so-called anti-nausea soup, barely eating anything, and headed back to her room to rest. With her not eating, Simon also lost his appetite and followed her back to the room.
After a hot shower, Sienna felt much better lying in the warm bed, the urge to vomit temporarily subsided.
Seeing Simon still not headed to shower, she asked, "Are you planning to chat with Thornton later?"
"What Thornton? I’m spending time with my wife."
Sienna’s lips curled into a smile as she patted the spot beside her, "Then hurry up and shower, then come up and keep the bed warm for me."
Instead of moving, Simon stood by the table, reviewing the pregnancy guidelines Joyce Sutton provided today. After a moment, he asked, "It says here that soda crackers may help ease nausea. Should I go out and get some for you?"
Sienna, having had nothing to eat, still lacked appetite but sensed hunger, so she nodded, "Alright, it’s late, drive safely."
Simon leaned down to kiss her and grabbed his coat and car keys to head out.
