Chapter 470 - 223: Cracking One Case—Here to Gain More Insight (3)
Some people enjoy eating snake meat, and as a result, ten years later, because of unbearable headaches, they went to the hospital for a check-up, and doctors found a seventeen-centimeter-long two-headed parasite in their brain.
This parasite requires boiling for more than five minutes in boiling water at 100 degrees Celsius to be destroyed.
If it hides deep within snake meat or frog meat, it’s easy to escape unharmed.
Once inside the human body, it gradually adapts and begins to parasitize.
Li Jingsheng wasn’t entirely sure that this patient was being affected by a parasite, but he thought it was worth investigating.
Looking at the time, it’s already past twelve twenty at night.
He sent a message to Director Hua, briefly explaining his diagnostic thought process and some subtle findings. He suggested that Director Hua conduct a parasite check on the patient tomorrow.
The most peculiar thing about this patient is that there wasn’t a significant increase in eosinophils.
Otherwise, they would have already carried out this check.
That’s precisely why Li Jingsheng is feeling uncertain.
Unexpectedly, Director Hua replied to his message immediately upon receiving it.
"Still awake so late? We’ll arrange for the patient to undergo such checks tomorrow morning."
"Since I can’t sleep anyway, I heard from Dr. Qin that the patient had a fever at night, so I came over to have a look. I’m about to go back to sleep."
Li Jingsheng was somewhat reserved when messaging the head of the department.
"Get a good rest!"
The message included a thumbs-up emoji.
"Alright! Good night!"
After replying, Li Jingsheng had another matter to attend to.
He needed to check on the female patient with bilateral kidney enlargement in urology. Considering the late hour, he brought along his work attire.
Though both the Orthopedic and Urology inpatient departments were in the same building, Li Jingsheng was not familiar with the place.
Upon reaching the eighth floor, he was immediately hit by the smell of disinfectant, along with the odor of urine.
Many patients here require catheterization, or even carry a urine bag strapped to their waist.
Occasionally, leaks or spills happen on their beds or clothes, leaving a bit of odor.
When this floor houses all of these types of patients, even if only a small portion has such issues, the smell of ammonia can be quite strong.
Li Jingsheng’s visit immediately caught the attention of the nurses at the nursing station.
They cautiously sized up Li Jingsheng.
Being from a completely different department, naturally, they didn’t recognize the somewhat handsome young doctor.
"Are you looking for someone?"
A nurse with light brown hair and a slender face stared at him and asked.
"I’m Dr. Li Jingsheng from Orthopedic Surgery, and here’s my work ID."
Li Jingsheng promptly identified himself to gain their trust.
"What brings you here? Accompanying one of our nurse sisters on night duty?"
The married nurse was bolder than the young, unmarried ones, speaking so directly.
Even a seasoned individual like Li Jingsheng blushed a little at this.
"I was wondering if bed 37’s patient is named Chen Guixiang?"
"Yes! Are you here to see her?"
"Is your Dr. Tan Shuilin on night duty tonight?"
"He’s right inside. Dr. Tan, there’s a Dr. Li from Orthopedics here to chat with you!"
The nurse laughed and shouted into the doctor’s office.
This nurse was quite cheeky.
"Come in!"
A tall young doctor appeared at the doorway of the office and looked over at Li Jingsheng, then waved him over.
This individual wore glasses, looking about thirty-two or thirty-three years old.
Regardless of age, in the medical field, he was considered quite young.
"Hello! I’m Li Jingsheng, I came to see if you could take me to the female patient named Chen Guixiang, the one with bilateral kidney edema."
Li Jingsheng remained outside, directly stating his intention.
"And you are?"
"I saw the patient’s information at Director Mu’s place and got interested, so I wanted to come over for a firsthand look. Dr. Tan, is it convenient?"
"Convenient, very convenient! I’ll take you there!"
Tan Shuilin did not refuse after hearing this.
Younger doctors are keen on delving into complicated cases, it’s a sign of ambition. Any such young doctor is bound to have some skills.
Tan Shuilin hadn’t heard of Li Jingsheng’s name.
After all, Li Jingsheng hadn’t been at the Second Hospital for long, even though he might be somewhat notable in Orthopedics.
Nevertheless, he was quite well-known among top-tier chiefs in Pulmonology, Emergency, and Cardiac Surgery.
On the flip side, the lower-level doctors knew very little.
"This female patient is the strangest case I’ve encountered in my career. It’s clearly a kidney disorder, but there’s been minimal effect from symptomatic treatment. Is your Orthopedic Department involved in such research?"
As they walked, Tan Shuilin provided some context.
He hadn’t heard of Li Jingsheng’s name, but once this case was resolved by him, he’d certainly make a point of greeting Li Jingsheng from afar.
