Chapter 749 - 720: Parallel Universe Romance
Upon understanding everything, Sienna cheerfully went to pack her luggage. The weather has been quite nice these days, neither windy nor snowy. The midday sun is comfortably warm, making it a good time for a trip.
She planned to wear the same outfit for going out tomorrow for two days, so she only took one set of indoor loungewear and one set of pajamas, plus a set of underwear. Not wanting to bring too many bottles and jars, she just packed some basic skincare, sunscreen, loose powder, and lip balm, all in a small luggage bag.
Once packed, she put on a face mask while waiting for Simon Forrester’s call.
The design firm was hosting a New Year party at The Imperial Hotel that evening, and Simon Forrester had invited her to join him. She was concerned Simon Forrester would have to shuttle back and forth to take her home after his socializing and she herself didn’t want to join the hustle and bustle, so she declined. Instead, she planned to have dinner with her parents, watch the New Year’s Eve gala, and continue packing, which kept her quite busy.
With the mask done, Sienna was getting ready for bed, but Simon Forrester hadn’t called yet. She glanced at the time; it was already eleven o’clock...
Is he home yet?
She sent him a message on WeChat: "Are you home?"
Half an hour passed without a reply, so she called him. This time, he answered.
The other end was noisy, with people talking and singing. Simon Forrester’s lowered voice greeted her, "Hello."
She asked, "It’s eleven o’clock. Is it still not over?"
"Uh, not yet..."
Halfway through speaking, she heard him talking to someone else: "Let Logan have a drink with you guys, I have to leave."
Someone laughed, "Is your wife checking in?"
He laughed too, "Indeed, I’m on the phone with her. I really have to go, or they won’t let me in to sleep if I’m late."
The person laughed a few more times, calling Simon Forrester whipped. Simon Forrester didn’t say much more, and after a while, the background noise quieted down, and Simon Forrester’s slightly intoxicated voice came through, "I’ve had a bit to drink, Harrison is taking me home, don’t worry."
After saying this, he handed the phone to Harrison, "Say a few words."
Harrison respectfully spoke into the phone, "Lawyer Thorne, I haven’t been drinking, I’ll take the boss back, please don’t worry, rest well."
Sienna chuckled, "Okay, thank you, Assistant Rhodes."
After a while, Simon Forrester’s voice reappeared. He laughed lightly, and asked, "Promise me, next year’s New Year party, will you join me?"
Sienna laughed, "Let’s talk about it next year."
There was silence on the other end, and she heard the sound of the elevator opening and the wheels on the ground of the parking lot. After a few seconds, the thud of a car door closing reached her ears.
"I’m in the car now," Simon Forrester said, "I’m heading home."
Seeing he had no intention to hang up, Sienna continued talking to him while trying to get sleepy with the phone in her hand.
"How much did you drink tonight? I feel like you’re a bit tipsy."
"Uh..." Simon Forrester exhaled, "I had a few glasses of strong liquor, feeling a bit light."
Strong liquor?
Sienna’s mind immediately conjured an image of a street drunk, and she worriedly said, "Don’t drink so much next time. You’re living alone, what if you feel unwell in the middle of the night?"
"Then let’s get married soon, that way next time I’m drunk, you can take care of me."
Sienna blushed, muttering, "You really are drunk..."
Silence fell again on the other end, and she thought he had fallen asleep, about to hang up...
"Annie..." His voice was back.
"Hm?" She smiled, "I thought you fell asleep."
The voice on the other end continued on its own, "I like you so much, what should I do? If I return home later and you were waiting for me there, how great would that be..." His voice trailed off, and after a while, soft snores could be heard.
Sienna knew he was asleep but couldn’t bear to hang up directly. She listened to his snores for a while, and gently said, "I like you too," waited a moment more, then smiled and ended the call.
Worried about Simon Forrester, she couldn’t sleep, so she leaned against the headboard, reading for a bit. Estimating he should be home by now, she sent him a WeChat message asking if he was asleep.
After dozens of minutes without a reply, she was just about to check the design firm’s official blog for Harrison’s contact when her phone received a video call invite.
It was Simon Forrester.
Her heart leaped with joy, and she quickly accepted the invitation.
On the other side of the video call, Simon Forrester’s face was flushed red, wearing a white short-sleeved tee, and was currently using a white towel to dry his hair.
"You’ve bathed? How are you feeling now?" she asked.
Simon Forrester rubbed his hair a few more times, took the towel away, shook his head, picked up his phone and walked out of the bathroom, and sat in the sun chair in his room.
"A bath makes me sober." He smiled at the video, "Have you packed your luggage?"
"All done! It’s so late now; if you had been home, I would have been asleep ages ago."
"Next time I’ll be home early! No matter how big the event, it can’t be more important than my baby eating, drinking, and sleeping."
Sienna let out a laugh, her right cheek forming a deep dimple.
Simon Forrester raised his forefinger and tapped the screen, laughing, "I heard people with dimples can hold their liquor well, how about you?"
"I can’t. I get drunk even with a little cocktail."
"If that’s the case, be careful not to drink outside."
Sienna laughed, "I know! My daddy often reminds me. Last time I was at The Imperial Hotel for dinner with clients, my dad specifically came to the hotel to wait for me, worried I’d be forced to drink. But I’m very careful, didn’t drink at all."
"Smart girl," Simon Forrester said with relief, "If there’s a chance, I want to thank your dad properly for taking such good care of you."
Sienna chuckled, "Yes, the cabbage raised so well has been snatched by a pig."
Upon saying this, Simon Forrester’s gaze darkened, and he remained silent for a while. On the other side, out of sight, the man’s breathing quickened.
He restrained the flutter in his heart, trying to act casual, "It’s getting late, shall we sleep?"
"Alright," Sienna sweetly smiled at the video, "Good night, see you tomorrow!"
"One kiss before hanging up."
Sienna felt shy but still kissed the phone with a smack before hurriedly hanging up.
...
The next day, because she didn’t want Quentin Thorne who was home for the holiday to discover she was going on a trip with Simon Forrester, Sienna didn’t dare ask Simon Forrester to pick her up at home but took a cab to their meeting point.
When she arrived, Simon Forrester’s car was already parked by the roadside with the hazard lights on.
"Driver, please park behind that gray SUV with the hazard lights on in front." She lowered her head to find change.
The taxi driver parked behind Simon Forrester’s car, turned to her with a smile, "Young lady, is the man in the car your boyfriend?"
"Yes."
"Your boyfriend is a big deal, huh? A Lamborghini bull, plus that license plate, wow."
Sienna smiled, said nothing, handed the driver a twenty-dollar bill, thanked him, and got out with her luggage bag.
Just as she closed the taxi door, Simon Forrester, wearing sunglasses, got out of the car and walked quickly to her. He took her luggage bag in one hand, and with the other put his arm around her shoulder, leading her to the passenger seat, and opened the car door for her before shutting it, then returned to the driver’s seat with her bag.
The taxi driver watched the scene with envy and shook his head, "Wealthy, powerful, and so good-looking, God damn, life’s unfair."
