Chapter 5 The Changed Plot
Chapter 5 The Changed Plot
It can bring life to inanimate objects, but it cannot revive dead creatures.
Those Leviathan remains are, in the end, just remains.
Their power systems have been destroyed, their nervous systems have collapsed, and even if life energy is forcibly injected, they will only be corpses with life but unable to move.
The Holy Lord's heart sank.
This thing won't stop that living Leviathan.
"roar!"
Deep inside the tunnel, the real Leviathan had already rushed towards them, its massive maw wide open, and eerie blue energy condensing in its throat, about to erupt.
The Holy Lord turned and ran.
Steve, standing to the side, stared blankly at the fleeing Holy Lord. Where was the courage he had shown when he came along? Why was he the first to run away?
The Holy Lord ignored Steve's bewilderment. What a joke! Without the Dog Charm, he valued his life more than anyone else present.
Steve snapped out of his daze, and without the slightest hesitation, he slung his shield over his shoulder and sprinted away.
Hulk smashed two more Chitauri flat and then ran after them.
They rushed into the main room of the substation, but before they could close the door, Leviathan's head had already smashed through the wall at the tunnel entrance.
boom!
Gravel flew everywhere.
Leviathan's half-body squeezed into the doorway, but got stuck.
Its trunk was too thick, and the substation's entrance was too small; the friction with the tunnel walls had already consumed most of its kinetic energy.
Now, it's stuck in the middle.
Leviathan struggled frantically, its metal skeleton scraping against the concrete, causing the entire building to tremble.
"It can't get in!"
Natasha shouted, "This building can hold!"
Before he could finish speaking, Leviathan opened his mouth.
A deep blue light gathered in its throat.
"Lie down!"
Steve lunged at the two nearest civilians, shielding them with his shield.
The Holy Lord gripped the ground with his four claws, staring intently at the ball of light.
Just then, a familiar voice came from the communicator, with its signature smug tone.
"Everyone, I'm sorry to have kept you waiting."
Tony Stark swooped down through the hole in the ceiling, his palm cannon aimed at Leviathan's gaping maw: "This thing is mine."
An energy beam erupted from the palm cannon and poured directly into Leviathan's throat.
A ghostly blue light and golden energy exploded from the beast's mouth. Its head snapped back, its neck bursting open from the inside, spewing out countless metal fragments and blue liquid.
Tony stopped abruptly in mid-air, turned to look at them, and said, "You guys had a party here without inviting me?"
Steve got up from the ground, a relieved smile on his face: "How did you find us?"
"Your communicator location." Tony landed on the ground, the armor plates of his suit retracting one by one, revealing his slightly tired face.
"By the way, the situation outside is improving; the portal is starting to shrink. I guess there's something wrong with that big guy's mothership."
The Holy Lord's heart skipped a beat.
Is the portal starting to shrink?
wrong.
In the story, the portal shrunk because Tony pushed the nuclear missile in and destroyed the mothership.
The nuclear missile hasn't been launched yet, so how can the portal shrink?
He suddenly looked at Tony.
Tony was looking at him too.
"So," Tony pointed at Shendu, "what's with this moving gecko?"
The Holy Lord ignored his teasing; only one thought remained in his mind.
Why did the portal close when the nuclear missile hadn't even been launched yet?
Steve approached the Holy Lord and said the same thing again: "Don't worry, he's not an enemy. He saved me."
"Yes, it almost killed you too," Banner added, recalling the Holy Lord's swift and decisive escape earlier.
But the Holy Lord's mind is not on this at all right now, so why is the plot changing here?
Was all the Marvel storyline he heard in the museum fake? Was it all pirated?
That doesn't make sense. If it's pirated, why is everyone watching pirated versions and no one has ever seen the original?
Natasha looked at the stunned Holy Lord and assumed he was terrified by what had just happened: "Buddy, it's not your fault. Any living being would be afraid of death."
She was stunned when the Holy Lord was the first to run away, but that also dispelled some of her doubts about him.
After all, Loki wouldn't send a creature who's extremely afraid of death to be a spy.
The Holy Lord stood still, and the portal began to shrink.
That's not right.
He remembered clearly that in the discussions among tourists in the museum and in countless edited videos by netizens, there was only one outcome for the Battle of New York.
The council launches a nuclear missile, Iron Man pushes it into the portal, the mothership explodes, and the portal closes.
But the nuclear missiles haven't arrived yet, and the portal has closed by itself?
"Hey, Mr. Gecko?"
Tony's voice pulled him back to reality.
Iron Man squatted down in front of him and tapped his forehead with his index finger: "Is anyone home?"
The Holy Lord instinctively shrank back, his eyes wary.
Tony raised an eyebrow: "Wow, you're pretty quick-witted. So you can understand human speech?"
Steve came over and explained, "He understands English and Chinese, and he's a dragon, an Eastern dragon."
That's fantastic.
Tony stood up, hands on his hips, and looked at Shendu: "Where did you come from? What are you doing on Earth? Are you carrying any dangerous cosmic parasites?"
The Holy Lord stared at him without moving.
He was thinking rapidly. He remembered what they had discussed earlier: the nuclear missile launch was still under review, but it should have already been launched.
"He's trembling," Natasha's voice came from beside her.
The Holy Lord was taken aback. He looked down at his own claws, which were indeed trembling slightly.
Driven by his demonic instincts, he could sense a pair of eyes watching him.
That was the Observer, who changed the outcome of the New York jihad, but the nuclear bomb, who would be the target of the nuclear bomb?
A thunderbolt exploded in the Holy Lord's mind: there was another alien creature here, or rather, a creature that did not belong to this world.
He'll be the next target of the nuclear bomb! The observers won't tolerate his presence!
"Hey."
A hand landed on his head.
The Holy Lord looked up and saw Steve squatting in front of him, his blue eyes holding something that gave people a strange sense of peace.
Steve said, "Whatever you're thinking, catch your breath. We're safe for now."
The Holy Lord was taken aback. Was he truly safe, even if he was safe for now?
The roar overhead was indeed diminishing, and through the damaged ceiling of the substation, he could see the blue portal in the sky shrinking.
The bodies of the Zeta Swiss soldiers lay in the streets, and the airships fell like headless flies.
They won? The Battle of New York...they won?
"Captain!" Hill's excited voice came through the communicator.
"The portal is completely closed! Repeat, the portal is completely closed! All enemy units are unresponsive!"
There was a moment of silence in the substation.
Then the civilians huddled in the corner hugged each other and cried.
Natasha let out a long breath and put the pistol back in its holster.
Banner's skin faded from green back to normal, and he plopped down on the ruins, wiping the sweat from his face: "I hate aliens."
Tony's armor groaned as his mask fully opened. He leaned against the wall, looking up at the ceiling, a slow smile spreading across his face. "I have to say," he said, "this is the second time I've saved New York, and it feels much better than the first time."
Steve stood up, looked at the constant stream of good news coming through the communicator, and finally smiled.
Only the Holy Lord stood still, looking up at the sky that was gradually returning to calm. He was waiting, waiting for the nuclear bomb to verify his conjecture.
In the distance, a white contrail was rapidly approaching from the southwest.
That was the trajectory of a missile.
