Chapter 99 Town Night

Chapter 99 Town Night

Suddenly, a vibration reached his palm. Pang Wenke quickly looked down to check. He couldn't be sure what the message contained, and only the organization could do something like this.

After a brief moment of thought, Pang Wenke quickly tapped a few buttons on the screen, and his phone was turned on. He then clicked on the SMS message to check the situation.

—Pang Wenke, your next task is to persuade Liu Chun to return to that town and bring back the sentient "ancient artifact" to the organization. Otherwise, you'll have to go back alone. Make your choice carefully. —

"No way! Are these people crazy?" Pang Wenke stood up angrily, looking at the bedroom where Liu Chun was still unconscious, with no sign of opening the door.

"We just barely escaped death. If it weren't for Brother Liu's help, our entire team would have been wiped out long ago." He clenched his fist and slammed it on the table. "These people make it sound so easy. They just say what they want without caring about our current situation."

Despite saying that, Pang Wenke's actions betrayed his words. After complaining, he got up and walked towards Liu Chun's bedroom to see if he could wake up now.

He didn't want to leave Liu Chun's side anytime soon. If he woke up, he would quickly take him back to the town. No matter what, he had to find a way to bring that 'ancient artifact' power back to the organization.

……

Afterwards, the organization kept urging him to quickly lead his men back to the township. They didn't care whether Liu Chun had woken up or not; what they wanted was for Pang Wenke to take action as soon as possible, because the organization was waiting for them.

Left with no other choice, he could only leave Liu Chun at home and leave her a note, asking whether she would come to help when she regained consciousness, depending on what she did.

On the way to the town, Pang Wenke and his companions dressed differently, looking just like young people who had just returned home from working away from home, appearing perfectly normal.

"Captain Pang, do you know where Brother Liu Chun is sitting?"

The man asked, even though the two had not been in the same car before, there was no doubt that he could only survive with Liu Chun by his side, and everyone in the group knew this clearly.

From the moment they boarded the bus together as a team, everyone's eyes were straining to find Liu Chun, and since Pang Wenke hadn't brought it up, none of them felt comfortable asking.

After so long, Liu Chun still hadn't appeared on the bus, so some people couldn't help but ask her about it.

Pang Wenke glanced at him listlessly and said unhappily, "I'm at home!"

This statement sparked a heated discussion among the passengers on the bus:

"Oh! Aren't we just going back to the town to our deaths?"

"Exactly! What's wrong with you as captain? You just do whatever the organization tells you to do. But what if the organization told you to eat poison? Would you do that?"

"We should at least call Liu Chun along, otherwise what are we supposed to do? Seriously."

……

"Driver, please brake at the next intersection! I need to get off now, and I'm willing to walk all the way back to Beijing alone!"

"I'm not doing this kind of suicide mission, the driver can attest to that, I'm getting off too!"

For a moment, panic gripped the bus. Many people stood up from their seats, but as soon as the bus stopped, they all ran away, unwilling to do such a foolish thing.

Pang Wenke remained silent for a long time before slowly standing up and scolding, "What are you doing? What are you doing?"

"Are you the only ones who are going to their deaths, but I'm not?"

"Don't worry, I've already left a text message for Brother Liu Chun. If he wakes up and sees it, he'll definitely come to help us. Besides, we've all seen what happened before, right?"

While this made sense, some people still raised a question: "Captain Pang, what if Liu Chun doesn't wake up?"

Pang Wenke glared at him fiercely: "He will definitely wake up, he definitely will. After all, everyone sincerely wishes him all the best and doesn't want him to remain asleep forever, right?"

Seeing that Pang Wenke told the driver not to stop, everyone was praying that Liu Chun would wake up quickly so he could come and help, otherwise their lives would be in real danger.

Seeing that everyone had regained their composure, and knowing that Liu Chun would appear to save them if anything unexpected happened, there was no problem. After all, Pang Wenke didn't want to leave at all and was still sitting on the bus with everyone.

Anyway, with Brother Liu Chun coming over, there shouldn't be any problems.

As time went by, darkness began to envelop the entire town, and since Kui Luoqi was inside, the darkness seemed eerie.

The weather, which was originally very hot and humid, suddenly became as if a huge refrigerator had been placed around them and opened as soon as Pang Wenke and his group stepped into the town, allowing the cold air inside to permeate the surroundings.

The driver sitting next to Pang Wenke turned his head and glanced at him, saying to himself, "This place is really cold. It felt quite humid when we came here during the day."

Pang Wenke closed the window, picked up his pager, and said to everyone, "We have officially entered the town. Everyone, be on your best behavior so that the thing inside that child doesn't suddenly attack. Don't say we haven't really arrived yet."

As everyone responded, Pang Wenke stuck his head out of the window, and by sheer coincidence, he saw someone standing on a rooftop in the town.

At first, he was puzzled and wanted to see clearly who it was, but when he realized what it was, he was shocked and quickly withdrew his body to avoid being noticed by Kui Luoqi.

On a distant rooftop, Kui Luoqi and many small animals were enjoying a harmonious time together.

However, when he was stared at for a moment, he naturally turned his head away and the corners of his mouth turned up slightly. But he did not send the animals out to do things because of this. As before, all the animals served him alone.

"Things are starting to get interesting."

In the child's subconscious, the arrival of Kui Luoqi dispelled all the dark fog that had enveloped the child.

A short while later, the child came to his senses: "Did you do as I said?"

Kui Luoqi pointed to the screen-like image, where the corpses of the last few people were lying outside, each one more gruesome than the last, as if they had just been tortured before they died.

"Is it already dark?"

The child looked at Kui Luoqi and said, "Fine, I'm safe now anyway, so just give my body back to me, okay?"

"Not yet." Kui Luoqi waved his arm, and another scene began to appear: a bus entering a town. "The trouble is far from over. Once all these things are over, I will naturally return this body to you, so don't rush."

The child thought about it carefully, then suddenly questioned him: "You bastard, didn't you promise you wouldn't go after Brother Liu Chun and the others? How could you go back on your word?"

Kui Luoqi instantly appeared behind him, saying quite reasonably, "I've already repaid what I owed you. I did release them all, and now they've come back to their deaths on their own. What can I do?"

"You...you broke your promise!"

Kui Luoqi laughed loudly: "If credit can be eaten, then why didn't it protect you?"

"You can be naive, you can watch, and you don't even have to die. Just stay here and watch TV. I'll figure out what to do about the food."

"I've completely extricated you from this predicament, and in a sense, I've even saved your life. What you should do now isn't turn around and question me, but rather be grateful, understand?"

"I'm going to hit you!"

The child ran up from the foot of the mountain and used his tiny fists to punch Kui Luoqi. He felt that the child was giving him a massage.

However, to maintain his authority, Kui Luoqi didn't joke with him: "Get down!"

He merely roared at the child, and the child fell back down the mountain, whereupon the thick, dark fog enveloped him, engulfing him and causing him to fall into a deep, unconscious sleep.

……

The nights in the towns and villages have gotten much colder, and pedestrians have to wear thick coats to avoid freezing into "ice popsicles" when they go out.
