"With my mom."
"I see."
When she returned to the private room, Chen Xiao was on the phone. Seeing her enter, he quickly ended the call.
"Who are you talking to?" Misako asked warily.
"I'm on the phone with my girlfriend."
Misako nodded, but a strange bittersweet feeling welled up inside her.
She forced herself to focus on the food, but found that Chen Xiao's gaze remained fixed on her.
"Mom looks so cute when she eats." He picked up a piece of salmon sushi and held it to her lips. "Want to try this?"
Misako instinctively opened her mouth, then realized how ambiguous her action was. She wanted to refuse, but it was too late; she could only hold the sushi in her mouth and chew carefully. Chen Xiao's fingertips brushed against her lower lip, making her shudder.
"Is it good?" he asked with a smile, but his eyes darkened.
"It's delicious!" Misako said seriously, "But we are mother and son, so please keep a certain distance from me, Chen Xiaojun!"
"Really? Mom, are you sure you can bear to do that?" Chen Xiao whispered in her ear.
“That’s not what I meant. What I meant was that we can’t overstep our boundaries!” she said again earnestly.
Chen Xiao chuckled, "But I feel like we're just pretending to be boyfriend and girlfriend, like we're actually dating. Could it be that you've developed feelings for me differently, Mom? That won't do!!"
Misako was speechless, and looked at Chen Xiao with a mournful gaze. "It's my fault, I'm sorry." She lowered her head sadly.
Chen Xiao put a hand on her shoulder and said, "Okay, okay, don't be upset. Today is to help you feel eighteen again."
"Mmm." Misako's eyes reddened slightly, as if the pain of being surrounded by loneliness and solitude over the years had been released in an instant.
She hugged Chen Xiao tightly, saying, "Thank you, Chen Xiao." Her breathing became rapid.
She admitted that she was touched by Chen Xiao's gentleness.
Chen Xiao comforted her by gently stroking her back.
His gaze drifted towards the entrance of the private room, his eyes darkening slightly.
Just as he was about to answer, the door to the private room was suddenly pulled open. A waiter led two young women in: "Excuse me, all the other private rooms are full. Could these two guests please…?"
Chen Xiaojun? Ebina's eyes widened in surprise, her gaze shifting back and forth between Chen Xiao and Misako. Umaru beside her looked equally shocked.
Misako sat up straight instantly, reflexively putting distance between herself and Chen Xiao. But the next second, Chen Xiao's hand was already naturally on her waist: "What a coincidence, you guys are eating here too?"
This is… Ebina stared at Misako, his voice trembling slightly.
"My girlfriend, Misako," Chen Xiao introduced her naturally, gently pinching Misako's waist to signal her to cooperate.
Misako felt a wave of dizziness. She should clarify things immediately and sternly stop this absurd farce. But when she saw the obvious disappointment in Ebina's eyes and Umaru's probing gaze, a strange possessiveness suddenly welled up inside her.
"Is that so?" Ebina was in great pain.
"Ebina-chan!" Umaru looked at Ebina with concern.
"Just kidding!" Chen Xiao chuckled. "This is my mom!"
Ebina was relieved.
On the contrary, Misako felt a little uncomfortable when she heard the word "Mom," and looked at Ebina with hostility.
"Hello." She heard herself say in an unusually sweet voice, and even moved closer to Chen Xiao. "I often hear Chen Xiao mention you."
Ebina and Umaru happily sat down opposite each other. "That's perfect, let's all sit down and enjoy some wine together!"
Chen Xiao poured drinks for Ebina and Koumi one by one.
“But we’re not old enough to drink yet,” Hai Laoming said softly.
“A girl naturally grows up when she has a boyfriend,” Chen Xiao said with a smile. “Drinking is something everyone has to go through. Sometimes it’s not about the alcohol, but about loneliness, right, Mom?”
Misako nodded and gently nuzzled Chen Xiao. "Alright, everyone, don't be shy. As her mother, I'm very happy to see Chen Xiao making new friends. You know, Chen Xiao was very withdrawn when she was little."
"Really? Brother Chen Xiao is so handsome." Xiao Mai asked.
“It has nothing to do with looks. Chen Xiao used to be very attached to me, afraid that I would go far away. This child is not young now, and he still clings to me.” Misako said softly, but looked at Chen Xiao with deep affection in her eyes.
"It's okay, from now on, Xiaomai and I will both be Chen Xiao's best friends and... lovers..." Ebina said loudly.
Umaru gave an awkward smile. "Why am I suddenly being included in the list of lovers? It must have been a slip of the tongue by Ebina."
After exchanging pleasantries and drinking several rounds of drinks, everyone had a chance to chat.
After Chen Xiao and Misako saw Umaru and Ebina off, the two returned to silence.
Misako immediately pulled away from Chen Xiao's hand: "Are you crazy? How could you introduce me like that?"
"Didn't Mom cooperate very well just now?" Chen Xiao calmly took a sip of wine. "Besides, Mom looks cute when she's jealous."
"Who's jealous!" Misako glared at him angrily, but found herself unable to refute him. When she saw the way the young girl looked at Chen Xiao, she did feel a strong sense of displeasure.
Chen Xiao suddenly leaned closer, her nose almost touching hers: "Mom, your heartbeat is so loud."
Misako frantically pushed him away, but he pulled her into his arms. The boy's heart was pounding just as hard, the sound seeping through the thin fabric of her clothes onto her back.
"Let go...someone will see..."
"So what if they see?" Chen Xiao whispered in her ear, "We are a legitimate couple."
This realization made Misako's body burn. She should be angry, she should severely reprimand him for his inappropriate behavior. But the alcohol and the boy's fiery body temperature melted away her reason, leaving her only able to lean weakly against his chest.
As they left the restaurant, the city lights were just coming on. A night breeze brushed against Misako's flushed cheeks, bringing a touch of coolness. Chen Xiao insisted on taking her hand, and this time she didn't refuse.
"Mom, do you want some ice cream?" Chen Xiao asked, pointing to the window as they passed a dessert shop.
Misako hesitated for a moment, then nodded. She watched as Chen Xiao queued up to buy a two-tone ice cream cone, then took a bite to her surprise.
"It's very sweet." He smiled and handed it to her. "Would you like to try it, Mom?"
This was clearly an indirect kiss. Misako stared at the distinct teeth marks on the ice cream cone, her heart racing. Finally, she cautiously took a bite; the cream instantly melted on her tongue, cloyingly sweet.
"Is it delicious?" Chen Xiao asked expectantly.
Misako nodded, but her eyes widened the next second—Chen Xiao suddenly leaned down and swept his tongue across the corner of her mouth: "It's on here."
"You!" She stepped back in embarrassment and anger, but he grabbed her waist.
"Mom has been very nervous all day." Chen Xiao's voice suddenly turned serious. "Does being with me really make you this uncomfortable?"
The night breeze ruffled his bangs, revealing those bright eyes that always softened her heart. Misako suddenly remembered the first time she met this child many years ago; he had looked at her with the same eyes, making her decide to adopt him without hesitation.
“No…” she said softly, unconsciously raising her hand to tidy his hair, “It’s just… I need time to adjust.”
On the way home, Misako took Chen Xiao's arm. The boy stiffened for a moment, then broke into a bright smile and hugged her even tighter.
Chapter 5: Misako's mother made a mistake.
I pushed open the door to my house.
At the entrance hall.
Misako took off her high heels, revealing her beautiful feet encased in red stockings. As she bent over, she stumbled, and Chen Xiao instinctively caught her from behind.
I could smell the fragrance emanating from Misako.
He deliberately leaned his body backward and fell face down.
Misako fell to the ground.
She vaguely sensed something was amiss.
He quickly said, "I'm sorry."
"You seem very nervous today." After Chen Xiao got up, he hugged Misako, buried his head in her shoulder, and smelled her fragrance.
"It smells good."
"You're still flirting with me, honestly!"
"Are you nervous?"
"It's all your fault! You had no choice but to go on a date, and now... you've made me feel uneasy?" Misako blurted out, then quickly covered her mouth.
Chen Xiao chuckled, "Don't worry, we're very close family. What? Do you have some special feelings for me?"
"You idiot Chen Xiao, don't be so disrespectful to me," Misako complained.
She subconsciously pushed Chen Xiao away, saying, "I'm going to take a shower first."
"Okay, don't rush." Chen Xiao quickly reminded him.
Misako stepped onto the floor and walked quickly, seemingly unwilling to say anything more to Chen Xiao, afraid that if things continued like this, something bad would happen sooner or later.
Chen Xiao sat on the sofa, watching Misako's departing figure.
He took out his phone and casually bounced it around.
The image of Misako's pure yet alluring posture came to mind.
It was just a lighthearted laugh.
Subconsciously, he took out his phone and sent a text message to Misako.
Misako was washing herself in the bathroom, reluctant to wash away the lingering scent of Chen Xiao.
She inevitably felt somewhat uncomfortable.
She looked at herself in the mirror with a slightly flushed face.
What's wrong with me?
Why do I feel so uneasy and rushed today?
"Chen Xiao... he really has grown up." She suddenly felt a little depressed and uncomfortable.
I recalled the scene from thirteen years ago when I adopted Chen Xiao.
Misako gently bent down, lightly stroked Chen Xiao's forehead, and whispered, "Don't be afraid. From today onwards, we're family."
"Mother..."
That one word, "Mom."
Misako was in a daze.
