Although May wanted to restart the Firemoth base, after walking around the base, she realized that it was impossible for her and Kevin to restart it on their own.
How to start the Honkai Energy Reactor is not something Mei can do, not to mention whether the stalled Honkai Energy Reactor can be safely restarted is also unknown.
Since the base has no energy source, most of the area is naturally shut down.
May and Kevin could only look for some old generators to generate electricity and try to charge some portable electronic devices.
Kevin knew everything from paper documents in three abandoned cities.
Breathless, Kevin pushed the handcart with the generator and some fuel outside the base.
He then returned to the base and quickly found Mei.
Although the base had been shut down, some areas were still open before the shutdown, which is why Kevin and May were able to enter some parts of the base.
However, in many other places, it's simply impossible to get in.
"Let's take a rest," Mei said, pulling Kevin to a chair to rest on when she saw how tired he looked.
"Here, have some water first," Mei said, taking a bottle of water from the cart next to her and handing it to Kevin.
Mei found the bottled water in the dormitory area of the base, along with some other daily necessities. Although the bottled water was sealed when she found it, Mei knew very well that the water was not drinkable for her.
Kevin, however, didn't care.
Kevin's body only looks human; according to May's tests, Kevin's physical abilities have completely surpassed those of humans, but he is not yet able to fully utilize them.
Kevin was naturally aware of these things as well.
"What are you going to do?" he asked Mei after resting for a while.
"The liquid in those jars," Mei said, taking out a metal thermos filled with liquid from the jars.
Neither May nor Kevin knew what the light green liquid in those jars was or how it was made. After the liquid was removed from the jars, the empty jars would automatically refill.
Mei also observed that this light green liquid can effectively ensure that the human body has all the necessary nutrients, keeping people in a healthy state.
But just in case, May is also trying to collect food and drinking water from abandoned cities and bases.
Unfortunately, Mei didn't know how long past the expiration date had passed, or whether the food and water were still usable. Although Kevin tried to eat or drink the food and water, his body was clearly no longer that of a frail human. He was fine eating it, but Mei might not be.
“Let’s try to go back to the virtual world in a few days and rescue some people. Right now, it’s just us,” Kevin said.
Although many humans are living happily in those jars in a virtual world, Kevin knows that it is ultimately a virtual world, and perhaps one day all of humanity will be forced to wake up.
Rather than waiting for that day, it's better to save some people now and then rebuild human civilization from the ruins of a real apocalypse.
"Mm," Mei nodded.
"But I'm thinking about something: where exactly is the 12th Herrscher?"
Upon hearing Mei's question, Kevin also fell into deep thought, as he too did not know where the 12th Herrscher was.
So far, however, no other creatures have appeared besides them, and the surroundings are filled with deathly silence.
After their conversation, the two decided to go and learn more about the massive canning equipment.
"We should go check out the center of that canning facility; there seems to be something important there."
May recalled the enormous canning equipment that was arranged around the center, but in the days since she woke up, May and Kevin had been gathering information and hadn't gone to see what was there.
Now is the time.
"I found a few old motorcycles near the base, one of which is still usable, and the fuel we just collected is also usable. We can go check it out now."
Kevin said.
"it is good"
May and Kevin then pushed the cart to the entrance of the base, where the power generation equipment and fuel that Kevin had just pushed to the entrance were still quietly sitting there.
The two of them pushed the cart to a small building near the base, which was their temporary residence. After putting the things on the cart, Kevin went into the garage of the small building.
He pulled out an old motorcycle, reloaded it with the collected fuel, and then Kevin began trying to start it.
Soon, the roar of the engine was successfully heard.
“Let’s go,” Kevin said, sitting on the motorcycle and looking at May.
Mei then sat on the back of the motorcycle.
The roar of the engine resumed, and the motorcycle carried the two of them on a long-abandoned road overgrown with various plants. In the distance, they could see the abandoned city near the base.
Not far from the city are those canning devices filled with people.
As they passed through a dense array of cylindrical jars, Kevin and May silently observed everything along the way. Each jar contained a human, lying quietly in a pale green liquid.
These humans are the last remaining humans on Earth.
Looking at everything before her, Mei suddenly thought of a question.
In the virtual world, all the humans seemed to be real humans; at least Mei didn't discover any non-human beings.
But here's the problem: the number of humans in the real world who are "canned up" is far too small compared to the number of humans in the virtual world. So where do the other humans in the virtual world come from?
Virtual data?
Ke Mei has indeed lived in the virtual world for more than 20 years. Some of her memories from childhood to adulthood are still fresh, while others have become blurred.
Mei had also seen photos of herself taken by her family when she was a child. She grew up, studied at school, was admitted to the Physics Department of St. Freya College, and went to work at a physics research institute after graduation.
Those memories feel like they happened just yesterday.
In contrast, memories in the real world are more like dreams.
The virtual world and the real world—which one is truly virtual, and which one is truly real?
In silence, Kevin and May arrived at the central area surrounded by the canning equipment, which was enclosed by a metal wall with four entrances.
But when they arrived at the entrance, the sight before them stunned Kevin and May.
Because in the heart of the place, there are not cold metal floors and glass jars, but a magnificent garden, a magnificent garden that is completely out of place with its surroundings.
“A garden?” Mei stood at the edge of the metal floor and the garden, somewhat stunned.
On one side is a cold metal floor and cold, round metal cans, while on the other side is a beautiful, meticulously maintained garden.
Mei crouched down and reached out to touch the garden soil. The touch of her hand and the fragrance of soil and flowers filled her nostrils. As far as her eyes could see, in the middle of the cold installation, there was a garden.
She grabbed a handful of soil and held it in her palm. The soil in the garden was almost exactly the same as the soil Mei had seen outside and in the virtual world. But upon closer inspection, Mei discovered that the soil in the garden was far more beautiful and exquisite than the soil she had seen.
Even though it's just inconspicuous soil, Mei can sense that it's a perfect creation.
And the various flowers planted in this soil are equally flawless.
"Shall we go in and take a look?" Kevin looked towards the middle of the garden, where there was a magnificent, well, bed.
It was indeed a bed, a luxurious pink princess bed.
Kevin also saw a pink figure lying quietly on it.
"Um"
Mei carefully put the soil back in her hands, and then followed Kevin along the cobblestone garden path toward the center of the garden.
However, after taking a few steps, the two stopped at the same time.
Nothing happened to stop them from moving forward, nor did the gardener appear. The flawless garden remained a flawless garden; nothing had simply changed.
Nothing has changed.
Kevin and May exchanged a glance, then took a few more steps forward, but the center of the garden remained the same distance from them—nothing had changed.
“We can’t get through…” Mei gazed at the middle of the garden, where a pink figure, like a sleeping princess, stood.
No matter how they walked towards the center of the garden, they were always a great distance away from it, able to see it from afar but unable to get close at all.
“I’ll go take a look around,” Kevin said as he stepped into the garden, walking on the soil and flowers.
Nothing has changed.
Where Kevin walked, the flowers were indeed trampled, but there was no sign of them breaking; only footprints were left in the soil.
Kevin tried to circle around to get closer to the center of the garden, but just like before, he couldn't get close at all. The garden didn't seem very big. After walking around once, Kevin returned to Mei's side, but he still couldn't get close to the center of the garden.
"Let's go back," Mei sighed softly.
The garden is very likely the work of the 12th Herrscher, and the pink figure in the middle of the garden should be Alicia.
But why? Why did the 12th Herrscher place Alicia here?
Mei has absolutely no memory of any connection between Alicia and the 12th Herrscher, including in this real world.
She remembered Alicia as the second most powerful fusion warrior of the Firemoth after Kevin, and also as a beautiful girl as radiant as a flower.
May and Kevin turned and left the garden together.
"Next, we should go into the virtual world and wake up the others."
"But if we want to awaken other fusion warriors and humans in the virtual world, we have to find a way..."
"Kill them"
Chapter 330 Try Your Best
Although Kevin and May have appeared in the real world, the other Fusion Warriors are still in the virtual world. Kevin and May are not good at communicating, so it is almost impossible to convince the Fusion Warriors and humans in the virtual world that they are in the virtual world just by talking.
Even if Kevin and May are able to return to the virtual world, that alone is not enough to convince them.
Moreover, even if the fusion warriors in the virtual world believed everything they said, they would still need to die in the virtual world to return to the real world. How many people would be willing to commit suicide?
Humans have been living in a virtual world for a long time. Therefore, we must wake up from this false world, face reality, and do our best to defeat the 12th Herrscher!
"Kill them in the virtual world."
Kevin and May were somewhat depressed; this was an incredibly difficult but necessary task for them.
"The only option is to awaken the other fusion warriors first; only by combining the power of all fusion warriors can humanity be saved."
Let's start preparing.
Mei looked at the jar in front of her, which contained a fusion warrior.
Kevin is currently opening two empty cans, preparing to return to the virtual world.
Although preparations were needed, May and Kevin had very limited options; only items that could fit in empty jars could accompany them to the virtual world.
Mei didn't really know if her and Kevin's decision to awaken the other fusion warriors was right or wrong; she even felt quite confused.
Even though she has some memories from the real world, most of Mei's memories are from that peaceful virtual world.
Other fusion warriors should also live their own lives.
Who would believe it if they were suddenly told that they actually live in a virtual world? Such theories have actually appeared in virtual worlds, but most people just treat them as stories, including May and Kevin.
Now, however, the events in the story have become real. To save humanity and force them to confront the real world again, they must be killed in the virtual world.
"Let's get ready to go," Kevin said, but then he saw Mei sitting quietly to the side.
Seeing the confusion and hesitation in Mei's eyes, Kevin also fell silent.
Isn't he the same way?
He talks about awakening humanity and saving the world, but Kevin has no idea whether he can actually bring himself to kill those fusion warriors and humans in the virtual world.
Kevin's memories from the real world tell him that he is a powerful, ruthless warrior, a warrior who can remain calm and decisive at any time.
But in his memories of the virtual world, Kevin was just an ordinary person, someone you could see anywhere, and he hadn't even undergone any military training.
For Kevin, the memories in the real world are more like a dream.
"Kevin, are we being watched by the Twelfth Herrscher right now?"
When May asked him a question, Kevin fell silent.
"I do not know"
That was the only answer he could give.
In the real world, Kevin is a Fusion Warrior, but he feels that he only possesses the physical attributes and special abilities of a Fusion Warrior. Kevin knows that he is not actually the strongest warrior of the Moth Chaser who has experienced many things in his real memories.
For Kevin, everything in his real-life memories is just a memory, like watching a long movie. It has a deep emotional impact, but he can't fully immerse himself in the experience of everything he went through in his memories.
Kevin guessed that the other fusion warriors in the virtual world were just like him, simply possessing the physical attributes and special abilities of fusion warriors. Although they had various names and incredible combat skills in his memories, they were essentially just large-scale cannon fodder now.
As for the abilities of the 12th Herrscher as an opponent?
A Herrscher who can create a virtual world that is almost indistinguishable from reality by hand, a Herrscher who seems to be able to erase the memories of all Fusion Warriors.
